What benefit is there in checking washing machine hoses for cracks or bulges once in a while?

Date:

Washing machines push a lot of water through their hoses under pressure. If a hose is old, brittle or poorly fitted, it can crack or burst suddenly. That means a flooded floor, wet furniture and possibly damage to neighbours below in an apartment building.

A quick visual check every now and then—looking for bulges, cracks, rust at joints, or leakage marks—lets you replace hoses before they fail dramatically. Many hoses are cheap compared to the cost of fixing water damage.

It’s like checking tyres on a car: boring, but far cheaper than dealing with a blowout.
